The large-scale expansion project of Tbilisi International Airport has commenced. To mark this event, an official ceremony was held today, July 13, at the country’s main airport, featuring speeches by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze; the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili; and the Chairman of the Executive Committee and Board Member of TAV Airports, Franck Mereyde. The event was opened by the General Manager of TAV Georgia, Tea Zakaradze. A symbolic “time capsule” ceremony was also held to mark the start of construction.
Within the framework of the large-scale expansion project, the number of passenger boarding bridges will double, increasing to 10. Additionally, 7 new remote aircraft stands will be constructed, 9 new check-in counters will be added to the terminal, the passport control zone will be expanded, 24 new passport control points will be set up, two new baggage claim belts will be added, and existing passenger spaces will be renovated. Furthermore, new retail, dining, and business lounge areas will be created, with a special emphasis on promoting Georgian cuisine and local products, and the capacity of the terminal’s adjacent parking lot will be increased.
TAV Georgia will invest $150 million in this project, which will double the throughput capacity of Tbilisi International Airport, increasing it to 10 million passengers annually. TAV Georgia has been operating the Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports for over 20 years and represents TAV Airports-a member of the French aviation giant Groupe ADP-as its subsidiary in Georgia. Over this period, the company has implemented numerous major infrastructure projects in Georgia with a total value of $250 million, and today it stands as one of the largest employers in the Georgian aviation sector.
