TAV Georgia has presented projects implemented over the past year at Tbilisi International Airport’s aerodrome. The need for infrastructure improvement at the aerodrome arose in response to the increased passenger traffic. In these projects, TAV Georgia invested up to 16 million GEL.

The “E” taxiway was expanded, enabling Tbilisi International Airport to seamlessly receive and service large (wide-body) aircraft. The rehabilitated taxiway meets both national and ICAO standards. In parallel with this work, Georgian Air Navigation (Sakaeronavigatsia) carried out the renewal and installation of visual air navigation aids, such as lights and signs.

Additionally, with TAV Georgia’s investment, additional parking stands for aircraft were constructed at Tbilisi International Airport, and part of the existing stands was rehabilitated.

As part of this project, new parking stands were created for wide-body aircraft with ICAO “F” and “E” codes. Furthermore, the area of Apron #3 was rehabilitated, providing three parking stands for narrow-body aircraft with ICAO “C” code, as well as three helicopter parking stands.

A total area of 100,000 m² of artificial turf was renewed in the aerodrome section.

The company has also purchased new aerodrome maintenance equipment essential for the upkeep and operation of the aerodrome. Additionally, a modernization and expansion project for the airport’s fire-fighting facilities is underway. TAV Georgia has acquired a brand-new, fast-response fire truck, modified based on the European brand RENAULT to meet ICAO standards.

“This is the part of the airport that passengers only see through the windows, and many probably never consider the significant resources, effort, and investment required to maintain this infrastructure in a constant state of readiness. This is especially true given the increasing passenger traffic at Tbilisi Airport year after year, and the growing number of aircraft arriving at this area. Over the past year alone, TAV Georgia has spent up to 16 million GEL on the renewal of infrastructure and equipment in the aerodrome section to ensure that the aircraft operating at Tbilisi International Airport receive high-quality service and maximum safety guarantees, in line with both national and ICAO standards. The results I am presenting today will have a positive impact on flight safety and regularity. Thanks to the expansion of the taxiway and the construction of new stands, we can now receive large aircraft without interruptions or restrictions, thereby increasing the capacity of Tbilisi International Airport. The expansion of the fire-fighting depot is also significant. When this project is completed, the depot will include a training space for personnel retraining and physical preparation. Moreover, the renovated depot will house an emergency operations center for effective management of emergency situations,” said Levan Mosisvili, Head of Aerodrome Compliance Monitoring at TAV Georgia.

TAV Georgia has been operating in Georgia for 20 years. During this period, the company’s total investment in Georgia has exceeded 227 million USD as of today.
