Tbilisi International Airport has welcomed its five – millionth passenger – an unprecedented milestone in the history of both the airport and Georgia’s civil aviation sector. The five – millionth passenger, Pierre Berret, a citizen of France, departed on a flight from Tbilisi to Paris. To mark the occasion, TAV Georgia, the operator of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports, organized a symbolic recognition ceremony at Tbilisi International Airport.
This year, both Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports are demonstrating record – breaking passenger volumes. According to TAV Georgia’s projections, the two airports are expected to close 2025 with a combined total of 6.6 million passengers. Based on eleven-month data, passenger numbers have increased by 13% in Tbilisi and 30% in Batumi compared to the same period of the previous year. In total, more than 6,147,000 passengers were served at the two airports under TAV Georgia’s management during the first eleven months of 2025.
For Tbilisi International Airport, the record-setting day was 12 August, when it handled 97 flights and 21,959 passengers. Batumi International Airport recorded its highest daily traffic on 24 August, serving 35 flights and 8,446 passengers.
“Today is 5 December, and we have already served our five-millionth passenger at Tbilisi International Airport this year. On 9 October, we also marked a historic milestone in Batumi, where the airport recorded its first-ever annual one-millionth passenger. These achievements represent the beginning of a significant new chapter for our company – especially in a year when TAV Georgia marks 20 years of operations in Georgia. For comparison, when TAV Airports began its activities in the country exactly 20 years ago, Tbilisi International Airport served only 540,000 passengers annually. I would also like to highlight another important figure: over the past 20 years, our company has served more than 50 million passengers in Tbilisi and Batumi. Today, two decades later, Georgia’s main international gateways possess far greater operational capabilities. Passenger traffic continues to grow year after year, and our company stands ready to make further investments in the development of the airports under our management,” stated Tea Zakaradze, General Manager of TAV Georgia.
TAV Georgia began operations in the country in 2005 and has since constructed and developed Georgia’s two international airports in Tbilisi and Batumi. Today, the company employs more than 1,900 people. Over the past 20 years, TAV Georgia’s total investment in the country has exceeded USD 230 million.
