Amid the increasing passenger traffic, TAV Georgia continues to invest in the infrastructure of Tbilisi International Airport. Over the past year, the managing company of Tbilisi and Batumi airports has invested 5 million GEL in the development of the terminals and surrounding areas of Tbilisi Airport.
The infrastructural works were carried out in the passport control area of the departure terminal. This space was expanded by 61%, increasing to 710 m², and the number of passport control checkpoints in this area increased from 18 to 26, marking a 44% growth. Additionally, alongside an 84% expansion of the Primeclass Lounge in the departure terminal, a Fast Track service was introduced, allowing passengers to expedite security and border control procedures when necessary.
The passport control area of the arrival terminal was also expanded by 36%, increasing to 925 m². In this area, the number of passport control checkpoints increased from 18 to 26, resulting in a 44% increase. Moreover, non-functional terraces of the building were integrated into the terminal’s interior space.
To enhance passenger comfort and improve operational processes, new passenger and freight elevators have been installed at Tbilisi International Airport.
Regarding the surrounding area of the terminals, the artificial road surface in front of the passenger terminal was renewed over an area of 7,700 m², and new parking spaces were also created. Currently, there are parking zones for 1,100 vehicles near Tbilisi International Airport.
“This is the part of the airport where the highest volume of people gather, and especially in light of the growing passenger traffic, it is crucial that the infrastructure is always well-maintained to ensure both the comfort of passengers and their companions, as well as the flexibility of operational processes. Over the past year, there have been periods of significant crowding at the airport. For instance, I recall the very pleasant period when the Georgian national football team participated in the European Championship. I am sure you all agree that it was a great memory for each of us, but imagine the high demand this event created for the airport’s services – even for parking spaces. This increased passenger flow presents many challenges in operations, and our team at TAV Georgia is constantly adapting to meet them. Today, the number of parking spaces is significantly higher than it was at this time last year, and we have created much greater resources in the passport control areas of both the departure and arrival terminals to ensure faster service for passengers and enhanced security,” stated Aluda Tsabauri, Deputy Technical Manager at TAV Georgia.
TAV Georgia, the managing company of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports, has been operating in Georgia for 20 years. During this period, the total investment made by the company in Georgia has exceeded 227 million USD as of today.
