On the backdrop of strong traffic growth, TAV Airports signed an agreement with the Government of Georgia to increase the annual terminal capacity to 10 million passengers. The company will invest USD 150 million and extend its concession period until the end of 2031.

TAV Airports, a member of Groupe ADP, has signed an agreement with the state-owned company United Airports of Georgia to invest approximately USD 150 million to advance the next phase of development at Tbilisi International Airport. The agreement includes a concession extension and a comprehensive program to enhance capacity, operational efficiency, and overall passenger journey.

The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Groupe ADP CEO Philippe Pascal, TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan, General Manager of TAV Georgia Tea Zakaradze and General Director of United Airports of Georgia attended the signing ceremony.

TAV Airport CEO Serkan Kaptan said “Georgia holds a special place in our company’s history, as it was our first step in becoming a global brand. During the last 20 years, in collaboration with our stakeholders, we have managed to develop Tbilisi Airport as a hub in the region. Annual traffic grew by almost 10-fold, from 540 thousand to more than 5.4 million. Today, 63 airlines are flying to 71 destinations and connecting Georgia with the rest of the world. Furthermore, Tbilisi Airport stands out as the leading airport in the region in terms of passenger satisfaction and sustainability. To date, we have invested more than USD 230 million in Georgia, and with this new investment, Tbilisi will strengthen its position as a hub. We are proud of past achievements and committed to contribute further to the growth of Georgia. I would like to thank the Government of Georgia for their trust and unwavering support and our stakeholders for their collaboration, and our employees for providing the best possible travel experience to our passengers”.

Capacity increase to 10 million

The gateway to Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi Airport surpassed the 5.4 million passenger mark in 2025, representing a traffic increase of 13.7% compared to the same period last year.

TAV Airports overtook operations in 2005 and during the last two decades, the airport achieved an annual compound traffic growth of 12.6%.

Tbilisi Airport was ranked among the best airports in Eastern Europe by Skytrax in 2025.

The investment will add another 19 500 sqm to the existing terminal area of 37 500 sqm. The number of passenger bridges will double to 10, and seven new remote parking stands will be established.

In the terminal, 10 check-in counters, 24 passport control counters and two baggage carousels will be added. Existing areas will be refurbished, and new commercial areas will be created to further develop passenger experience, with a particular focus on showcasing Georgian cuisine and products. Carpark capacity will increase to accommodate 500 more vehicles.

The project is planned to be completed as early as 2028.
